American Electric Power - UHV Bundle Conductor Tests at Magdalen Islands

A UHV bundle of 12 conductors was installed on IREQ´s Magdalen Islands test line to observe and measure wind-induced conductor motion. This bundle was equipped with three different commercially available spacer types. Bundle behavior was observed under wind conditions causing subconductor oscillation and aeolian vibration. Conductor motion was monitored through motion sensors with their output being automatically recorded. Performance of the UHV bundle equipped with the different spacer types under a variety of wind conditions is analyzed and discussed.
