Abstract :
There is need to comprehend, to evaluate and to communicate generating station failure experience in order to satisfy a wide variety of defined user needs. A generic form of comprehensive, structured narrative is proposed to improve efforts at reporting and classifying failure events; a set of basic statistical performance indexes also is proposed and would be keyed to the narrative. The narrative format would vary in structure among utilities depending on their organization. The narrative records can be a source of relevant statistical data for management overview and for early warning systems, and it can serve as a rational basis for corrective action.
