Abstract
The corona performance characteristics of conductor bundles for use on transmission lines operating in the range of ±600 kV to ±1200 kV, obtained as part of a comprehensive corona study for transmission systems in this voltage range, are presented in this paper. The results presented in this paper complement those already published1 for a 4 x 1.6" conductor bundle chosen for a nominal voltage of ±750 kV. In addition to presenting the corona performance characteristics of 6 x 1.6" and 8 x 1.8" conductor bundles, corresponding to nominal voltages of ±900 kV and ±1050 kV respectively, the paper also presents a general analysis of some of the results obtained for all the three bundles tested. The study includes a detailed investigation of the important corona performance parameters, namely radio interference (RI), audible noise (AN) and corona losses (CL). Some measurements of ion current density and electric field at ground level are also presented.
