Abstract
Maximization of the rate distortion function (RDF) of a class of memoryless sources constrained by moments is transformed to a minimax problem. Kuhn-Tucker conditions for determining channel capacity and an RDF are solved simultaneously by a linear program. Special cases include the maximum entropy method, Gaussian densities, and spherical invariance
