Abstract
This article presents a brief history of GE and Westinghouse from the perspective of a retired electric utility engineer. This paper reviews how both utility companies made major contributions to the electrical industry and the world. During their early period, competition brought out the best in each other and together they influenced the development of national and international standards, codes, and guidelines. This paper also discusses the various factors that contributed to the fall of both companies in the electric utility industry.
