            Abstract :
An acousto-optical Ti:LiNbO3 TE-TM converter whose transducer is placed at 1/3 of the interaction length forms a polarisation-independent optical depolariser, suitable to suppress polarisation holeburning in EDFAs. The authors present a double-stage depolariser with ⩽0.03 residual degree of polarisation, 110 GHz optical bandwidth and 4 μs depolarisation time
