The 18 papers in this special issue were originally presented at OFC/NFOEC 2008, which took place in February 2008 in San Diego, CA. The papers address topics ranging from devices to networks, and they target applications ranging from ultra-low bending loss fiber for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) to optical packet switching.
