  • Abstract
The Macclesfield-based Advanced Manufacturing Technology Research Institute (Amtri) launched a project which aims to achieve world class productivity in the food manufacturing and processing industries through robotics and automation. The project is called Modular Reconfigurable Shelled Robotic Automation Project or more commonly known as the Food Factory in a Pipe. Traditionally, the food industry has been the domain of labor intensive activities, but work from Amtri has paved the way for fully automated, flexible and modular techniques to be adopted.
