Abstract :
Elements of public safety must be considered when metallic fencing is installed in the fault induced field of a substation. A formula is developed to estimate induced voltage on metallic fencing located adjacent to high voltage substations. A method is presented to estimate grid potential distribution. Verification is made using a fence model alongside a test grid. And, an example is given of a hazardous voltage which could be induced on metallic fencing during a line to ground fault.
