Abstract
This paper describes a methodology to examine the reservoir size of pumped storage. In studying the required characteristics of pumped storage such as required reservoir size, careful analysis is indispensable on its future operation. This paper presents a Monte Carlo simulation method that incorporates uncertainty in demands and supply capability and deals with both weekly and daily operations of pumped storage. The method examines required reservoir size from the viewpoint of power system reliability. A sample study discusses the sensitivity of required reservoir size on load profiles and generation mix
