Abstract :
The name of the organization is Conference International des Grands Reseaux Electriques a haute tension. A translation of this is: International Conference on Large High Voltage Electric Systems. CIGRE is a permanent, non-governmental international organization dedicated since its founding in 1921 to the development and interchange of information and. ideas concerning the design, operation and construction of large electric networks. Cigre advances in the technology of systems by bringing together in study committees, working groups and symposia, experts from countries throughout the world to compare experiences, share concepts and exchange opinions on the suitability and applicability of new techniques. CIGRE disseminates this information through the bi-monthly technical journal Electra supplied to all members, through symposia proceedings, through published papers and, not least importantly, through personal contacts. CIGRE does, because of its structured and rapid interchange of new ideas, compress the time between development of new systems technology and its general application throughout the world.
