Abstract
During the past decade a new class of magnetic materials, amorphous metals, have been under development. This material offers the potential of reducing the core losses of motors and transformers by more than 70%. Thus, the incentive is tremendous to develop cost-competitive motors and transformers utilizing amorphous alloys. This paper will briefly discuss some of the important technical properties of magnetic amorphous alloys and then will describe the results of applying this material in both model transformers and a model motor.
