Abstract :
Several coordinated novel design concepts are described for a HVDC CGI transmission line. Discussions are given on the basis on which these novel concepts are expected to result in enhanced economy and reliability. A project was initiated by the Department of Energy to implement and to test these concepts with models so as to assess realistically the technical and economical feasibility of a HVDC CGI transmission line. Initial test results are briefly described.
