Abstract :
Enhancing the performance of software transactional memory (STM) is one of the main challenges in developing multi-core systems. Even though current STM has been evaluated for high performance in large-scale multi-core systems, its use in mobile devices and the effect of its power consumption have not been considered. Recently, smart phones and tablet computers have been emerging and working on only lock-based synchronization. We propose and apply a new STM model (called ATC) to a platform for mobile devices and show that the ATC-based platform enhances speed-up and power conservation over a state-of-the-art solution, by as much as 1.75× and 1.4×, respectively.
