Abstract
Design activities, project control, construction coordination, plant operations and maintenance, along with reliability and availability analysis (and associated regulatory reporting requirements) are enhanced by a means of uniquely identifying power plant component functions and relating them to systems. An industry-generated recommended practice is described as a means to provide a common identification structure and coding scheme to facilitate this identification and provide a basis for correlating individual AE/utility identification schemes. The principles and definitions, the code structure, and the sources of component function and system identifiers are developed in a series of recommended practice documents which are described herein. The concepts presented in this paper have been substantially proven in use by utilities, architect engineering firms, and various government and industry agencies.
