Abstract :
The distribution of stray losses in the step of a laminated transformer yoke with a horizontal magnetic shunt is solved using a network approach. Total losses, maximum loss density, and leakage flux return along the yoke all vary with gap spacings between shunt and yoke. Design trade-offs among these variables are possible through choice of gap spacings.
