Static Compensator Loss Estimation from Digital Measurement of Voltages and Currents

The paper deals with a procedure for the direct measurement of the active power dissipated by the reactor arm of a static compensator in operation. The precision of the loss measurement as influenced by the distorsion of the waveform, sampling rate of the data acquisition system, the phase errors introduced by the current and voltage interfaces and the analog-to- digital conversion are examined. The online digital loss measurement promises to be an useful tool in the testing and maintenance of the static compensators.
