Abstract
Power transformer availability and utilization are key factors in overall transmission system availability and utilization. A Microprocessor based Transformer Analysis System (MTAS) has been conceptually configured to provide improved power transformer availability and utilization through the continuous monitoring and analysis of power transformer operating parameters. Present power transformer monitoring and protection schemes are based on single inputs which do not adequately encompass the power transformer in its operating environment. Decisions about the operating condition and capability of power transformers, which are now being made from single parameters measured as needed by the decision makers, can be formulated by the MTAS from multiple diagnostic inputs and a historic data base.
