A Conceptual Scheme of a Digital Communications Network of Integrated Services Applied to a National Power Grid

This publication offers a general description of the ideal architecture of a digital communications network of integrated services. The network is designed to handle voice and data and is used in a national power grid. The limitations of an analog network are mentioned; a transition to an integrated system digital network (ISDN) is proposed, based on modules formed by an access multiplexer and a digital commutator. A brief description of the ISDN is given, as well as its application objectives which are being studied at the Instituto de Investigaciones Electricas (IIE).
