Abstract :
A methodology is presented which provides a means for quantifying the reliability of a transmission line structure. This methodology may be used to determine the level of reliability of an existing structure or as a tool to design new structures for a desired level of reliability. Through a calibration exercise, the reliability of structures, designed and erected according to an existing loading criteria, was measured. Based on this calibration exercise, probability-based load and resistance factors are recommended for the design of future lines.
