Measurements of Steep-Front Lightning Surge Voltages on Distribution Lines

As one of the major causes of distribution -line lightning faults, the presence of steep- front lightning surge voltages having a wave front of about 0.1 us had been presumed. Therefore, lightning measuring instruments including surge counters and a transient recorder were developed and these units were installed on distribution lines. As a result, the crest value, frequency and waveform of such steep-front lightning surge voltages were actually and successfully measured.
