  • Abstract
    This paper describes the design and development of digital signal processing algorithms for synchronous generator rotor velocity and acceleration measurement. The system employs a microprocessor and is designed with control applications in mind. The rotor acceleration is derived by taking the first derivative of the velocity signal. The velocity measurement is by a time division algorithm. Since the differentiation by most numerical methods tend to generate noise, a simplified least squares procedure is utilised together with a moving average and a decimation. The algorithms are relatively simple and can be implemented in realtime using microprocessors.
