Abstract :
We propose a motion JPEG model with progressive refinement for computer animation and describe the design and implementation of an animation playback system. A novel feature of the proposed model is that it decodes fewer DCT coefficients to achieve real-time playback and, when the frame is still, it progressively refines the quality of the image. With the new design and highly optimized code on a workstation, we can achieve 16 fps in the CIF format with 256 colors, and 6.3 fps in true color
