Abstract
This is the first of a series of two papers dealing with design criteria for transmission lines based on probabilistic concepts. This part covers calculations of the probability of failure of a line when both load and resistance are random variables. For the first time the influence of two important parameters have been studied: the use factor of towers and the effect of a load event that acts simultaneously on N towers.
