Abstract :
In this paper, the design of 8-bit microprocessor is discussed. The processor will have arithmetic and logic functions that are on an 8051, a standard 8-bit microprocessor that is readily used in lab experiments. The codes are written in VHDL. This includes an ALU, registers and a system bus. Each part was designed separately and tested for functionality. After all parts are working properly they are combined together forming a simple microprocessor. The RTL simulation is done in XILINX tool and RTL synthesis part is covered through the synopsis (design vision) tool. This processor has 256 byte memory; 8 bits address bus and 8 bits data bus. After synthesis, area is 5309 square micron and power consumption is 6.4707 microwatt. This is a simple 8-bit microprocessor that is complex enough to handle many tasks.
