Abstract
The teaching of energy conversion processes in electrical machines should not exclude an appreciation of the power transfers and mechanical stresses established at the air-gap boundaries. For an idealised machine model detailed vector analysis is deemed unnecessary for demonstrating quantitatively the concepts involyed. An illustration is provided by the polyphase induction machine.
