Abstract :
The interaction of the spatially main magnetic field components of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system with the currents of a gradient coil set generates Lorentz forces. In this paper, a novel design study of a uniplanar gradient coil set for use in fully open MRI system is presented with high linearity, low inductance, small dissipated power, and canceled net thrust force. In this method, the continuous current density of the coil plane is expanded into Fourier series in 2-D based on the symmetry of currents; the problem is simplified into the solution of Fourier coefficients instead of current density.
