Abstract :
Recent experimental and theoretical work has shown that high-frequency microwave sources can excite electrohydrodynamic instabilities on liquid metal surfaces through parametric resonance. It is shown that parametric resonance may be useful in two-dimensional ion source experiments by reducing the value of the electric field required to produce instabilities leading to ion emission
