Abstract :
Dynamic parameters of a magnetically induced compression gas puff have been measured. It is shown that the injected gas in this type of gas puff is partially ionized by an internal source. The major source of ionization is shown to be the UV light emitted from inside the gas puff through the nozzle slit opening. This idea is supported by the ionic current and light output measurements at different conditions. The gas jet speed is estimated to be 1.0×105 cm/s, and the maximum ion density could be as high as 2.2×1014 cm-3
