Abstract
The compression of voltage pulses by a cascade of transmission lines is investigated, and a simple derivation is given for the case in which the characteristic impedances of the individual lines are independent of the compression factor. The possibility of using a single nonuniform transmission line (NUTL) for voltage compression is examined, and it is shown that a distortionless compression is not attainable by a practical NUTL. Lumped parameter approximations of the NUTL are suggested.
