Abstract :
Under certain conditions of operation, the operational amplifier has the rate of change of its output limited to a value called the slew rate. This effect can result in slew-induced distortion (SID). A model has been developed which permits the analysis of SID on any single-amplifier active filter. The model can determine the influence of SID on the frequency response and the input-signal threshold at which SID occurs. The model also predicts the presence of jump resonance. Representative examples are given which illustrate the influence of SID on commonly used single-amplifier realizations. It is shown how one may prevent the occurence of SID. These results are applicable to the use of active filters at high frequencies and/or large-signal levels.
