Abstract :
A mathematical model of a small subsystem within a transformer winding has been constructed to define operating conditions under which free bubbles are likely to be evolved. The model is based on the characteristics of the component materials in the subsystem. Its predictions have been correlated with the observed performance of physical models to establish confidence in its validity and it has been exercised to demonstrate the role which many transformer operational and constructional variables play in establishing conditions suitable for bubble formation.
