Abstract :
The paper describes a simple apparatus arrangement for observing the relative amplitudes and phases of the currents in the elements of a multi-element radiating system. The process of adjusting the array is greatly facilitated, much less time and skill being required than when each step in the process is checked by field intensity measurements. Using the method described, these measurements need only be used as a final verification of the adjustment. Field experience with a commercial application is described. The arrangement is also suitable for use by operating personnel in making routine checks to verify the maintenance of the desired amplitude and phase relations or to indicate the direction and magnitude of changes if they have occurred.
