Abstract :
In this article, a procedure is given to determine the number of distinct irreducible polynomials of prescribed degree in each of the independent variables, and having coefficients over a finite field of q elements. For brevity In exposition, the 2-D case is discussed in detail and scopes for further research with potentialities for engineering applications of the results are cited.
