Abstract :
Opportunities for obtaining improved motor efficiency by reducing the present restrictions on the motor starting current are identified. The existing National Electrical Manufacturer´s Association (NEMA) standards are reviewed, and recommendations are given for a new standard. The impact on motor operating temperature and power factor is discussed. In cases where increased starting current is prohibitive, alternative starting methods are given
