Abstract :
A system is described whereby the integrated electrocardiogram is automatically subtracted from the total integrated electrical activity recorded in the esophagus. By this method, a measure of the electrical activity in the diaphragm is obtained, and the output from the respiratory center can be studied independently of mechanical alterations of chest wall and lungs.
