Abstract :
This paper describes the development of a mathematical model of load loss in shell form power transformers. Theoretical loss calculations are modified by regressing them against test data to obtain estimates of winding eddy loss and stray loss in tanks. While the specific model presented here applies only to shell form transformers, the method used to develop the model is general and can also be applied to core form transformers. The model has led to a greater understanding of load loss and has provided the insight necessary to effectively reduce this loss.
