Abstract
Surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices are known to be capable of generating real-time Fourier transforms. This property has been successfully exploited in the past to enable implementation of so-called "transform domain filters" used primarily for interference rejection in spread spectrum communication systems. Filters designed in this manner have included programmable matched filters as well as adaptable notch filters. The same ideas, however, can be used to implement a filter in the Fourier domain which will allow simple and accurate generation of singlesideband (SSB) signals. This paper will describe in depth how the filtering technique works, and experimental results will be presented to demonstrate the procedure.
