Abstract :
In the remaining years of this century, the electricity sector will experience two fundamental developments: (1) the demand for electricity will far exceed the demand for other forms of energy, and (2) the resource base for electricity generation will change dramatically as we use less oil and natural gas and turn to coal and uranium. Increased reliance on coal and uranium will pose a number of technological and nontechnological problems. The nontechnological problems turn out to be the most difficult, and the future supply of electricity will in large part depend on their resolution.
