Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of published experimental data used for calculating the electric strength of long air gaps between conductor-ground and conductor-tower, using the "critical-charge" method. The study of actual testing conditions provides a basis for explaining certain discrepancies in the results reported by different authors. The paper concludes that the electric strength of long air gaps increases steadily with their length and that no saturation limit exists.
