Abstract :
The unavailability of high-voltage pipe- type cable for impulse propagation tests has hindered the development of creditable models for si´mulation studies. Low-voltage field tests have been conducted on a 13.9 km9 230 kV cable and subsequent analysis has substantiated the approach as a valid method for obtaining the desired high-voltage surge response characteristics without any risk to the cable. The results obtained, then, from low-voltage tests can be reliably used as a check for simulation studies.
