Abstract
Accurate measurements of the noise levels produced by turbine-generators are difficult to obtain because of the highly reverberant character of the turbine halls. The use of directional microphones to discriminate against the reverberant sound and improve the measurement accuracy has been investigated. The results show that effective signal-to-background noise gains of 3 to 7 dB can be achieved. The capabilities, limitations and areas which need additional work are specified.
