Abstract :
An economical energy storage device that bridges the gap caused by voltage sags and temporary voltage loss for an extruder process line is discussed. The system used is a flywheel storage system that provides an AC output. It has performed well, protecting the load from sags and momentary power outages and even responding to capacitor switching events. Close to 40 s of ridethrough is available to the extruder line. Part of this energy will be used on other extruder lines to give the customer increased value for money. It is clear from the results of demonstration that there are many industrial applications that would gain from this form of low-speed flywheel energy-storage system with AC output.
