Abstract :
Electric field induction from extra high voltage (EHV) transmission lines is analyzed for long objects, showing that objects perpendicular to the transmission line have a significantly reduced induction as compared with parallel objects. A theoretical approach is presented and is verified with measurements on long wires and large vehicles. An approach for the analysis of impact on people is suggested by examples. Examples are presented for long fences and large vehicles. The implications of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) limit of 5 mA is evaluated for perpendicular and parallel objects including the largest trucks permitted in each state in the United States.
