Abstract
In this brief review, the interaction of antennas with the ambient medium is addressed. Beginning with a simple model, it is shown that the frequency and distance dependence is a strong function of the medium properties. A borehole experiment is described and related schemes are discussed both from the telecommunications and the remote sensing points of view
