Abstract :
An analytical method is described to account for the effect of earth resistivity on the magnetic and electric field intensities near transmission lines. The effect is derived from the boundary conditions at the airearth surface. The field intensity vectors, even for a single-conductor line, trace elipses at any point in the transversal plane in space. Fields are calculated for frequencies, l0kHz to 1000 kHz and earth resistivit ties 20 Ω-m to 2000 Ω-m. It is shown that no concept of image current can be realized.
