Abstract :
This paper describes about a study of the armor corrosion of submarine cables, from the view-point that the armor has an important role in maintaining long-term use of a submarine cable. An investigation of the armor wire of a submarine cable which was used for many years in a strait with a comparatively high tidal velocity, showed that corroded portion of the armor wire has become a needle shape which is generally found in electrical corrosion. In addition, it was possible to calculate the corrosive velocity of armor wire to a certain extent, from a new theoretical analysis of electromotive force due to the velocity of tidal flow.
