Abstract :
Superconducting generators operate at high power density levels and employ airgap stator windings. Consequently these stator windings are subjected to high radial and tangential forces. In order to define the support structure requirements, it is necessary to compute the forces on the windings and iron yoke accurately. A closed form analysis to evaluate these forces under steady state operation and balanced short circuit conditions is presented.
