Abstract
A very simple and intuitive model that extends Lorentz´s classical formalism for describing the interaction between the electromagnetic field and matter to the case of anisotropic materials is presented. The model reflects all of the important characteristics of this interaction and, in addition, provides insight into the concept of tensor, which makes it suitable for a basic electromagnetism course at the undergraduate level
