Abstract :
Results of initial development tests on a DC pipe cable prototype are discussed, providing an early measure of design optimization. Details of the initial splice design are described, based on established critical stress parameters. Recent tests on models employing low-viscosity impregnating oil provide a basis for a comparative design on "self-contained" cable. The scope of the proposed development test program is reviewed.
